In the Coen brothers films there are many overlapping techniques. For example The Big Labowski shares the theme of money with many of the Coen brother's other films. this is a theme in the film Fargo where the character jerry is driven mad by his desire for money. Also in the film No Country For Old Men Llewelyn is eventually killed because he couldn't give up the money that he found in the desert. Another common trait are the depictions of America. In Fargo the over exaggerated accents make the viewer think of the common misconceptions of Minnesotans. The Big Labowski give you the feeling of the "hippie stoner Californian."
Another trait that Coen brother films share is the use of camera movement. All of their films use alot of tracking shots. Also several of their films use "Raimi Cams" or speed ramps in which the camera rushes in on the object or person being viewed to give a dramatic effect. The Coen brothers also like to use a wide angle lens in many of their film. The use of strange camera angles is also common in their films. these angles often hide something important from the viewer that is eventually revealed.

I enjoyed the Coen Brothers films alot. I thought that they were very original. They have a very unique style throughout their films. I though that both fargo and raising arizona were very similar. From the odd accents to the dark humor they both share a style not seen in very many films. Both films deal with strange characters that deal with very awkward situations.

altman blog

Overall I was not a big fan of altman's film's. Although I liked the long good bye very much. I thought that altman had a very unique cinematic style that I liked. His use of camera angles, movement and shot length were really cool. I also liked how he only used the one song(the long good bye) in the long good bye.

The third film my group watched was Young Frankenstein. The comedy that Mel Brooks used in this film was quite different from that of his other films. The jokes were much more subtle and took a little more thought to understand. Although there were still a few spots where the actors spoke directly to the camera.overall i thought that this film wasn't as good as the other two.

The next film my group watched is Robin Hood Men in Tights.It is a parody off of the classic robin hood story. Mel Brooks sticks almost perfectly to the robin hood story with the exception of all of the humor that he adds. This film was a lot like space balls in the type of comedy Mel Brooks chose to use.

The director that my group chose to study is Mel Brooks. The film we watched was Space Balls. This film was a very funny comedy. It parodied off all of the major sci-fi films of its time including Star Wars and Alien.The entire film was a joke. There wasn't a single part of the film that could be taken seriously. Just when you thought it was getting a little more serious Brooks would throw in some ridiculous twist that will leave you rolling on the floor. There was nothing special about the filming its self that I noticed. But it had the whole Star Wars feel to it.

his girl friday

I thought that the film his girl friday was slightly to fast paced. It didn't give the viewer time to react to the comical parts of the movie before moving on to the next part of the film. This made the movie a lot less funny that i expected. It also made the film hard to understand because it already uses "lingo" that isn't used very much if at all today. Over all this made the film very hard to follow and took away from the film as a whole.
